Installation Instruction - Surge Protective Device FV20C/3-1000 PV (S)

Usage and application range of surge protective device FV20C/3-1000 PV (S)
1.1     The series of FV20C/3-1000 PV (S) are suitable for photovoltaic surge protection, the frequency 50/60Hz, PV system voltage is less than 1000VDC. Usually it is installed in the sub-distribution board which the expected nominal charge current will less than 20 KA. It can protect the PV system effectively against lightning or induced over-voltage.

1.2     Normal service condition
1.2.1Altitude shall not exceed 2000m.
1.2.2Operating and storage temperatures
Normal range: -5℃ to +40℃
Extended range: -40℃ to +80℃
1.2.3Relative humidity: under indoor temperature conditions shall be between 30 and 90%.
1.2.4It shall be installed on the place without remarkable shake and vibration.
1.2.5It shall not be exposed to the volatile and caustic environment.

INSTALLTAION METERIALS REQUIED
The following is a list of materials that may be needed for proper installation of this surge protective device. This list is intended to help the installer anticipate material needed for a successful installation. The installer should become familiar with the scope of work to avoid lost time and improper installation.
l          Power Wire: cross area 10mmbrass wire.
l          The wire connected to the remote signaling contact:
cross area 0.14mm2-1.5mm2(solid), 0.5mm2-25mm2(stranded)
l          Tools: 35mm Rail, conduit knockouts, multimeter, screwdriver, pincers

WIRING DIAGRAM
This surge protective device is designed to protect PV system with voltage ≤1000Vdc against lightning surges and electrical transients.

BEFORE INSTALLATION
For proper performance, the units must be installed with the shortest lead length possible.
Sharp bends should be avoided.

INSTALLATION STEPS
Step1: Check voltages
Confirm that the system voltage does not exceed the maximum suggested operating voltage(Uc pv). All voltage measurements should be completed with a RMS voltmeter. DO NOT INSTALL THE UNIT IF THE MEASURED VOLTAGE EXCEEDS THE MAXIMUM SUGGESTED OPERATING VOLTAGE OF THE DEVICE (Uc pv).

Step2: Mounting the Unit
For best performance, mount the unit so that all wires can be cut and connected in the shortest and most direct path possible. For every inch of conductor added to the installation, you increase the let-through voltage of the surge protective device.
l    Visually determine the minimum lead length (shortest wire length) from the system bus to the casing of the device. No sharp bends should be made in the installation. If bends are unavoidable, make them smooth and flowing.
l    Install the surge protective device to the 35mm rail of distributor box,
l    Connect the ground wire from the surge protective device to the system ground bus bar. .
l    Connect the neutral wire from the surge protective device to the system neutral bus bar.
l    Connect the phase wires or “hot” wires form the surge protective device to the phase conductors or busses of the electrical systems through the required circuit interrupts (fuses or breakers).

Before energizing, measure the voltage again to insure it is within the levels in the table above.
Immediate failure of the surge protective device will occur if installed on voltages higher than these.

Step3: Apply Power to the surge protective device.
Note:
l          This surge protective device does not need specific maintenance. When module fails to work, the indicative window of module change to be red, please pull out the old module and use a new module to replace it.
